Vestas builds Chile's largest wind project

CHILE: Vestas has announced it is building Chile's largest wind farm, a 100MW development in the north of the country.

Vestas said it has started construction of the Talinay Oriente wind project in Limari province. The manufacturer said it owned the project.

The project will use Vestas 2MW turbines and will be completed in the first half of 2012.

Earlier this month, Enel Green Power announced plans to spend $570 million on Chilean renewables projects over the next five years, including a wind farm in the north of the country.

According to July's Windicator, Chile has a wind-energy capacity of 168MW.
