The 39.6MW order is for the La Fe – San Martin project near the country’s eastern coast. The project is expected to come online in the first half of next year and will use 22 V90-1.8MW turbines.
The contract includes a five-year maintenance agreement.
Speaking about the deal, Juan Araluce, president of Vestas Mediterranean said: "With this new project we are taking a first big step in Nicaragua. Our positioning in Central America and in Latin America, in general, is clearly reinforced with this order.
"It directly supports Vestas’ strategy of entering new markets to promote the development of wind power, so that it becomes a source on a par with other energy sources."
According to the Windpower Monthly Windicator, Nicaragua had a wind-energy capacity of 40MW as of the end of July.
