Enel plans $570 million renewables push in Chile

CHILE: Enel Green Power plans to spend $570 million on Chilean renewables projects over the next five years, including a wind farm in the north of the country.

Environmental impact assessments have now begun there.

Greatest wind potential is seen to be in the north of the 5000km-long country, with solar potential in the Atacama Desert region in the south.

Enel Green Power, which began operations in Chile in 2001, said it would  also be investing in solar and geothermal power. It is also exploring the possibility of launching hydro-electric projects.

According to the July's Windicator, Chile has a wind energy capacity of 168MW.
