Nexans has been tasked with connecting the 108MW 33-turbine project to an offshore substation. The development is located 15km north-west of the German island of Borkum.
It will involve manufacturing and laying 24km of 33kV cables in depths of 18 to 23 metres. The project itself covers six square kilometres
Delivery is set for autumn 2012.
Speaking about the project, Dirk Steinbrink, executive vice-president high voltage & underwater cable said: "The Riffgat project is unusual as it is located in somewhat deeper waters (18 to 23 metres) than for most offshore wind farms currently under construction.
"It therefore provides the ideal opportunity for Nexans to demonstrate our specific expertise in the manufacture of infield cables for deeper-water wind projects, especially as future projects are set to head for even deeper waters."
