The Villonaco project will be located in the province of Loja in the south of the country. It will have a 15MW capacity and use Goldwind's 1.5MW direct-drive turbines.

Construction is set to begin next month with the aim of bringing the project online in 2012. The wind farm will be built at a height of 2,700 metres.

Much of Goldwind's international focus has been targeted on the US where it is building the 106.5MW Shady Oaks project in Illinois. However, it is also looking at Africa where it has set up an office and is building a 76.5MW project in Ethiopia.

According to BTM Consulting annual wind-turbine manufacturers league on capacity installed, Goldwind occupied fourth place. According to the report, 9.5% of the world's installations were made by Goldwind turbines.
