Under the deal, Vestas will supply six V112 3MW turbines for the Simo wind project, in the Simo municipality. The project is set to be built by the end of the year.
TuuliWatti Oy is a joint venture between energy company St1 Oy and the S-Group, a service provider.
Vestas has described the contract as "an important breakthrough" for it’s business in the country.
TuuliWatti Oy managing director Jari Suominen said: "The Simo project is a very important corner stone for TuuliWatti Oy as it kicks off our €400 million investment project. Our target is to have built 10 percent of the Finnish year-2020 renewable energy target by year-end 2015."
The introduction of Finland’s long-awaited feed-in-tariff system (FIT) for wind-generated energy in January 2011 marks a turning point for a government eager to release the untapped potential of the country’s wind power capacity.
Its long-term ambitions, published in 2008 and included in the national action plan, centre on driving interest and capital investment in onshore and offshore projects. The report sees installed wind power capacity rising to 2GW by 2020, with around 1.2GW offshore.
However, Finland is late out of the blocks in terms of wind energy, way behind its neighbours Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Installed wind capacity rose to 197MW in 2010, up from 147MW in 2009.
