Areva, GDF and Vinci link up for French offshore tender

FRANCE: Energy corporations Areva and GDF Suez have confirmed they are joining forces to develop projects for France’s fledgling offshore wind industry.

The French government has called for submissions to develop offshore projects and is targeting around 6GW on the country’s coast by 2020.

The consortium also includes construction corporation Vinci.

It was revealed in the French press earlier this year that Areva and GDF were planning to join forces.

It is likely that Areva will contribute its expertise in manufacturing offshore turbines and GDF Suez its experience as an energy producer.

The agreement applies to three upcoming wind farms planned for Dieppe-Le Tréport, Courseulles-sur-Mer and Fécamp.
