Sinovel agrees to open factory in Greece

GREECE: Greece looks set to get its first turbine manufacturing plant thanks to an agreement signed between the national utility Public Power Corporation (PPC) and China's Sinovel.

Further details about where and when the factory will be built are not yet available.

The strategic alliance also covers the joint development of wind power projects.

The two aim to identify and start developing 200-300MW of onshore capacity this year, followed by around the same amount offshore in 2012.

Given that PPC has only 80MW of installed wind capacity to date, and the whole of Greece just 185MW, all onshore, these are significant amounts.
