Goldwind picks LM for Shady Oaks blades

UNITED STATES: LM Windpower has been handed a deal from Goldwind to supply 70 to 75 sets of blades for the Chinese company’s Shady Oaks project in Illinois.

The blades, which will be used on Goldwind’s 1.5MW direct drive turbines, will be supplied from LM’s Grand Forks facility in North Dakota.

This is the second deal Goldwind has handed to US manufacturing plants in two weeks. Last week, the company announced Broadwind would be supplying the project’s towers.

Goldwind has a 20-year PPA with ComEd to provide electricity from Shady Oaks.

Goldwind USA CEO Tim Rosenzweig said: "We are pleased to select LM Wind Power to supply blades for the Shady Oaks project.

"Like Goldwind, LM has both demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation through extensive research and development capabilities and compiled an impressive track record of success globally.   We are excited that LM Wind Power will be an integral part of our growth in the Americas."

The order marks LM’s second North American collaboration with Goldwind following the installation of LM blades on Goldwind’s initial US-based project in Pipestone, Minnesota.
