The wind farm will be in the north eastern region of the country, across the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte.

Suzlon will supply 104 S88-2.1MW wind turbines, which are designed for medium wind speeds. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in phases by June 2012.

In December, GE signed a deal with four developers to supply 400MW to a series of projects also in north eastern Brazil.

The customers were Renova Energia, Dobreve Energia, Contour Global and Bioenergy. They purchased 258 of GE’s 1.5MW and 1.8MW turbines for projects in Bahia and Rio Grande do Norte.

According to the latest Windpower Monthly Windicator, Brazil has a total installed capacity 768MW - the highest of all Latin American countries.
