The Eva Creek wind project in Healy is being proposed by rural electric cooperative Golden Valley Electric Association (GWEA). It is planned to be commissioned by autumn 2012.
Natural Power’s studies were used to define flow conditions on the site and aid with layout design. The information is intended to help GVEA assess the financial viability of the project and secure finance for the site.
Alaska has one of the lowest levels of operating capacity of the states with wind power at 7.8MW. The most recent project was the 4.5MW Kodiak Island wind project, which came online in 2009.
In June last year, Alaska passed legislation calling for the state to derive 50 per cent of its electricity from renewable and alternative energy sources by 2025.
