The wind farm is to be built on a portion of Invenergy’s proposed 200MW Big Otter Wind Energy Project site. The $50 million project is planned for 40,000 acres of private land near Belt in north central Montana.

NorthWestern Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase the project. A definitive agreement is expected in the first quarter of 2011, with commercial operation projected to begin by the end of 2012.

Invenergy is also the owner and operator of the Judith Gap Wind Energy Center in Harlowton, Montana.

Last week, the company sold its 150MW White Oak Energy Center in Illinois to NextEra Energy Resources.
