Goldwind is to acquire the project from Irish developer Mainstream Renewable Power. Mainstream will continue to participate in the joint venture until construction is complete at the end of 2011.
Project financing is still being finalised, said a Mainstream spokeswoman.
Meanwhile Goldwind USA, with Mainstream, has won a competitive bid to provide power from the project from 2012 to 2032 to the utility Commonwealth Edison.
Mainstream said construction should start in the second quarter of 2011.
The project, which cost $150 million-to-$200 million, will use Goldwind 1.5 MW permanent-magnet direct-drive turbines. In January 2010 Goldwind completed a 4.5 MW pilot project in Pipestone, Minnesota, its first US project.
Goldwind is the world’s fifth largest turbine maker and China’s second. It raised $917 million with an initial public offering the Hong Kong stock exchange in October.
In 2008, the first Chinese-made turbines were installed in the US. Ten 1MW Chinese-made Baoding Huide were installed in Texas.
And Sinovel, China’s largest turbine maker, recently clinched a contract to supply a 1.5 MW turbine to the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, for installation in Boston..
