One Republican and 26 Democrats signed the letter to Senate leaders, arguing that any tax package considered in the waning days of this congress include a two-year extension to the treasury cash grant program.
Also known as section 1603, the grant is equal to 30% of project costs, and is set to expire at the end of this year.
The Democratic majority in the Senate will shrink from 59 to 53 when the newly elected Senators take their seats in January.
The letter’s signers included Democrats Dianne Feinstein of California and Maria Cantwell of Washington, as well as Republican George LeMieux of Florida.
