324MW contract awarded to Gamesa

MEXICO: Gamesa has won a contract from European developer Eolia Renovables de Inversiones to supply 324MW to two projects in Oaxaca, southern Mexico.

Under the deal, Gamesa will supply its 162 G9X 2MW turbines to the Eoliatec del Istmo (164MW) and Eoliatec del Pacifico (160MW) projects.

The turbines are scheduled to be delivered between 2011 and 2013.

Oaxaca is a popular area for wind developers. Its location, a natural funnel formed by two mountain ranges, brings strong and reliable winds to the area for more than half of the year.

According to the Mexican Wind Power Association (AMDEE), Oaxaca has more than 500MW in place, around 550MW in construction and nearly 1.5GW on the drawing board.
