Portuguese wind energy production up 34%

PORTUGAL: The total installed wind energy capacity in Portugal reached 3841MW at the end of September 2010, distributed over 206 wind parks, with a total of 2,016 wind turbines.

Wind production, for the nine months preceding September 30, grew 34% over the same period in 2009. Wind production was up 49% in the first half compared to the same period in 2009, while in the third quarter it grew 2% year on year.

4433 MW of wind power is licensed, with 223 MW added over the January to September period. It is expected that Portugal will end 2010 with 4000 MW of installed wind power in the national wind system.

In September, 50.3% of Portugal’s annual electricity consumption came from renewable sources, according to data from the Directorate General for Energy and Geology (DGEG).
