Projects announced

US: Nordex has submitted an application for a new wind farm to be located in the southern parts of Emerson and Lafayette townships, along with Hamilton and North Star and small parts of Elba and Newark townships, in Gratiot County, Michigan.

CHINA: China is to build a 10.8GW wind power project in Hami in the far western Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region within five years.

CANADA: International Power Canada's planned Silcote Corners wind farm will be smaller than the proposal advertised at its public meeting in Meaford.

UK: West Coast Energy has filed a proposal of application notice with Aberdeenshire Council for nine wind turbines (22.5 MW) on Cairnborrow farm, between Drummuir and Cairnie in northern Scotland.

AUSTRALIA: RES Australia (RES Group) is planning to construct 225 wind turbines at a site near Penshurst in the state of Victoria.

Project planning

US: The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission is expected to make a decision on the Paynesville wind farm this Tuesday.

UK: Energy and climate change secretary Chris Huhne is likely to be asked to hold a public inquiry into a 60MW wind farm proposal for Frodsham Marshes.

AUSTRALIA: Acciona Energy's case to defend the development of its US$ 175 million wind farm near Mount Gambier has been suspended until next year to allow for medical evidence submissions.

UK: Plans for an underground cable system to connect the Dudgeon offshore wind farm to the National Grid via north Norfolk have been recommended for approval by planning officers.

CHINA: The first phase of construction at Huaneng Power’s Dalian Wafangdian wind farm has been approved by local planning authorities.

Project supply contracts

UNITED STATES: Consumers Energy, part of CMS Energy, has announced construction and supply contracts for its Lake Winds wind farm in Mason County, Michigan, which is due to be commissioned in late 2012.

UK: Circor International has won a £7.75 milion contract to supply the London Array offshore wind farm through its subsidiary Pipeline Engineering.

POLAND: Poland's historic Gdansk shipyard, the 1980 birthplace of the Solidarity trade union led by freedom icon Lech Walesa that toppled communism in 1989, has started manufacturing wind towers.

UNITED STATES: Gemma Renewable Power has secured an engineering, procurement and construction contract from Invenergy to build and design a 200MW wind farm in Henry County, Illinois.

ETHIOPIA: Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Terra Energy Developers for the engineering, procurement, and construction of a 400 MW wind farm in Debre Berhan.

Wind Finance

HONDURAS: Cerro de Hula wind farm in Honduras has received financial backing from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the U.S. government’s Export-Import Bank, which approved a US$209.3 million loan.

NICARAGUA: Consorcio Eolico Amayo, an operator of wind farms and the subsidiary of AEI has closed US$ 45 million in project financing for the second phase of its Amayo II wind farm in Nicaragua.

UNITED STATES: Western Wind Energy Corp. is nearing the completion of over 100 loan documents for the Windstar project financing.

UNITED STATES: The Public Service Commission has ruled that Wisconsin Power & Light should have informed state energy regulators sooner about transmission constraints it was going to face in getting power from its Bent Tree wind farm to Wisconsin.
