Draka to open Kansas manufacturing plant

UNITED STATES: Dutch cable manufacturer Draka is to open a Kansas assembly facility to supply a Siemens' nacelle factory in the state.

Draka plans to begin operations in Hutchinson, near Wichita, next month. The plant will employ between five and ten people, with plans to double employment within a year, the Kansas Department of Commerce said.

Siemens’ Hutchinson nacelle plant is also scheduled to open in December.

Two other wind manufacturers have announced plans for Kansas factories in the last year.

South Carolina-based Tindall Corporation said it would open a tower plant in Newton, creating 400 jobs, and Danish component manufacturer the Jupiter Group said it would create 120 jobs in Junction City.

A state incentive for wind manufacturing projects offers up to $5 million in bond financing.
