The deal is for 32 V100-1.8MW turbines and includes a six-year service agreement. Vestas said there was a posibility a further 23 turbines could be added to take the project to 99MW. It is also the first time the V100 will be installed in the US.
Horse Butte is set to be commissioned in the second half of 2011.
Additionally, Vestas has also won an order for 28MW from RES, to be installed on a project in Scotland.
The deal is for 14 V80-2MW turbines to be installed at the Kelburn Wind Farm in North Ayrshire by mid-2011. The contract includes a 10-year service agreement.
Kelburn was initially refused planning permission to by North Ayrshire Council in February 2007 when it was due to consist of 19 turbines.
RES appealed the decision, and a public inquiry took place in June 2008 for a modified14-turbine project. Consent was granted by the Scottish Government in August 2009.
Speaking about the deal Gordon MacDougall, RES UK & Ireland Chief Operating Officer said: "Kelburn Wind Farm will contribute to Scotland’s ambitious new renewable energy target of 80 per cent by 2050."
