Tegopi launches €3m Turkish wind tower factory

TURKEY: Portugal's largest wind tower manufacturer Tegopi has invested €3 million in a new production unit in Turkey, the company's first outside of its home market.

According to Tegopi vice president Pedro Manuel Quintas, the new production unit in Smyrna represents an investment of €6 million in partnership with the local group Alkeg.

The new Turkish unit will supply the Black Sea, an area of strong development for wind energy. The Portuguese factory, in Vila Nova de Gaia, will service the market up to the north of Italy.

Future plans include the opening in 2013 of a third production unit in the UK for the manufacture of offshore wind towers.

With the two foreign production units, Tegopi aims to triple production by 2014, from €32 million to €90 million. Tegopi exports over 80% of its production, having installed more than 1,500 wind towers worldwide.
