Under the agreement, EEW will team up with Mass Tank Sales Corp, a Massachusetts manufacturer of steel storage tanks, to build and run the factory.
Cape Wind believes around 100 jobs would be created from the factory’s launch and said it would be well-positioned to supply future offshore projects once the 468MW Cape Wind project is completed.
The deal comes a week after interior secretary signed Ken Salazar signed a 28-year agreement, leasing Cape Wind 25 square miles of the outer continental shelf in Nantucket Sound, Massachusetts. It is the first offshore lease the US government has signed.
The EEW/ Mass Tank facility is not the only factory to come from the Cape Wind deal. When Siemens won the order to supply 130 3.6MW turbines for the project, it announced it would open a plant in Boston specialising in offshore turbines.
