The Comber wind farm is currently under construction and is expected online in September 2011, with delivery of the turbines to begin in May.

Brookfield won a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Ontario Power Authority in the province’s first round of feed-in-tariff (Fit) contract awards earlier this year.

The company has also used Siemens turbines for its Gosfield facility, which began commercial operation last month. The two projects are located in neighbouring towns in Essex County and together represent an investment of C$650 million.

Siemens has specifically targeted the Ontario market. In August, the German turbine maker announced plans to build a blade factory in the province as part of a 600MW supply agreement with Samsung.

Under the arrangement, the turbines will be built jointly by Samsung and Siemens and used in projects planned for southern Ontario.

Siemens has been working with Samsung and utility Pattern Energy in projects that come under the state’s Fit program.
