Under the deal, GE will supply 36 2.5MW turbine to the Thep Sathit wind farm located to the north of Bangkok. It is the first Thai project for GE and Pro Ventum.

GE also said it is considered buying a share of the development.

Speaking about the deal Thai energy minister Wannarat Charnukul said Thep Sathit formed part of the country’s aim to derive 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.

Kovit Kantapasara, GE Energy’s country executive for Thailand and Indochina said: "Thailand’s multi-year incentives have made wind energy development a competitive proposition for potential investors. This memorandum of understanding is testimony to how long-term policies that match the life cycle of an investment, are driving the growth of renewable power generation."
