Wind Wire: ... but 2010 figures so far are poor

UNITED STATES: The wind industry installed 539MW in the first quarter of 2010, the lowest quarterly figure since 2007, according to the American Wind Energy Association.

This pales against more than 3GW built in the first quarter of 2009, although that was higher than normal because up to 4GW of wind deployments spilled over from 2008, says Matt Kaplan, an analyst for Emerging Energy Research. While comparison is therefore difficult, the 2010 figures show wind is still emerging from the economic crisis and many developers have cut build plans.
