The development will be located in Yuxi City, in the province of Yunnan. China Guangdong was unable to give a schedule for completion of the project.

Additionally there are reports China is planning to launch its biggest offshore wind farm yet in the southwest of the country.

According to China News Service the wind farm will be built in the coastal waters outside Shanwei City, Guangdong province. It did not confirm the capacity of the project.

Windpower Monthly looks at China's burgeoning offshore effort in this month's issue. China recently overtook Germany as the number one wind developer after the US.

However, offshore wind development in China is still in its early stages. This is largely due to complex operating environments and construction difficulties. For example, the Chinese coast is regularly ravaged by typhoons.

Taiwan recently announced it too was looking at developing offshore wind farms. The government said it was looking at the disputed Taiwanese Strait.
