Ben Walker read geography at Newcastle University. After graduation he spent six years in a variety of jobs, including one selling fish and another selling frocks, before attending journalism school in London in 2001. He subsequently worked for an online start-up and a food trade magazine, where his feature writing helped him win a national Periodicals Training Council award for newcomers to journalism. Ben later joined Haymarket Media as economic development editor on Regeneration & Renewal, and in 2003 was named journalist of the year for Haymarket, which produces almost 100 titles. He subsequently held the posts of deputy news editor, news editor and deputy editor on Regeneration & Renewal before taking up the editorship of Windpower Monthly in 2009. His passions include transport, urban policy and clean energy. In his spare time he enjoys mountain-biking, cooking, gardening, playing poker, watching cricket and supporting Nottingham Forest Football Club.
