Mixed views on US firm's plan to buy wind project leases from landowners

Business & Finance: "It seems we have the first-mover's advantage," says Andrew Hinkley, senior vice president of American Wind Capital Company (AWCC). Under its plans, owners of the land beneath US wind farms now have the option to sell their leases with plant owners for lump sums. This provides ready cash for landowners and profit opportunities for the financial firm behind the business idea. Some call the concept a sign of maturity in the wind industry but others say it preys on unsophisticated landowners. Both views may be true.
