The deal will see the two companies co-operate closely to develop a new generation gear unit for WinWind's turbine main drive ahead of the company's plans to dramatically scale-up export-driven production. "Our goal is to reduce turbine nacelle weight, since all extra weight is expensive in heights of over 100 metres," says Winwind's CEO, Ilkka Hakala.
Wind Wire: Finland - Winwind strikes gearbox deal
WinWind has signed a EUR100 million deal with Brevini Wind Deutschland under which the German gearbox maker will supply gear units for the Finnish company's 3MW turbines. Brevini is a leading producer of pitch and yaw-drive technology.
