The move by Moventas marks its first entry into the Chinese market. Dongfang is the third-largest wind turbine producer in the country, after Goldwind and Sinovel. Moventas chief executive Jukka Jaamaa says: "We have made an explicit plan to expand our business in Asia, particularly in China. This cooperation with Dongfang Electric is a milestone in our course of exploring the Chinese market." The first sample 3MW turbine will be completed in December 2010.

Finnish gearbox manufacturer Moventas is to supply gearboxes for Chinese manufacturer Dongfang Electric's 3MW offshore wind turbines.
