Wind Wire: Finland - Emissions grow despite wind drive

Finland's CO2 emissions from power generation rose by 5% to 12.7 m/tonnes in 2009, despite government initiatives to shift production towards CO2-neutral production, including hydro, nuclear and wind power, according to Finland's energy industry federation, Energiateollisuus (ET).

ET says the rise was influenced by a drop in combined heat and power production, lower output from biofuel stations due to problems in sourcing raw materials and a trend by industry to use coal instead of gas as a primary fuel.
