Wind Wire: Austria - Feed-in tariff to boost wind build

Austria has increased its feed-in tariff for new turbines coming online this year by almost 30% in a move the sector hopes will kick-start the country's stalled industry. The new rate, which was agreed last month, will see the tariff rise from EUR0.0753/kWh to EUR0.097/kWh, payable for 13 years.

The increase was agreed after an amended eco-electricity law came into effect in October 2009. It follows a poor year for Austria's wind sector in 2009, in which not a single turbine was installed.
