The Brookfield Renewable Power Fund will use 22 Siemens 2.3 MW units in its C$147 million Gosfield Wind project in Essex County. Construction started in September with full commissioning planned for late 2010. Siemens is also supplying 44 turbines for Kruger Energy's C$310 million, 101.2 MW Chatham project, expected to be in service by the end of next year. In the US, the turbine maker will supply 2.3 MW turbines to Competitive Power Ventures for its 151.8 MW Keenan II wind farm in Oklahoma, Duke Energy's 101.2 MW Top of the World project in Wyoming, Cannon Power Group's 59.8 MW Windy Flats Extension wind farm in Washington State and Pattern Energy's 101.2 MW Hatchet Ridge project in California. The total value of the six orders is more than US$900 million and, the company says, shows wind industry fundamentals remain strong in a time of economic downturn. "Importantly, these orders show how North America has been able to lay the groundwork to sustain this renewable industry over the long-term," says Siemens Energy chief executive officer Randy Zwirn.
