The Scottish Executive was set to launch a consultation paper on a new target for renewable energy before the end of May, according to first minister Jack McConnell. "I announced two months ago that we would consult on working towards a figure of 30% of our electricity coming from renewables by 2020," he says. "Already that figure looks to be achievable on the basis of the very many renewable energy projects now being planned." The Scottish Executive would be liaising with the Scottish Civic Forum and other bodies and wanted to make the consultation as wide as possible, he says. "I want full engagement in this process because . . . we can make the greatest difference by working in partnership with communities, the education sector, with other public sector agencies and with businesses."
