Nordex expectations for 1999

German/Danish wind turbine manufacturer Nordex expects an expanding export market to help double the company's turnover and increase its orders to some DEM 400 million in 1999. Last year, most sales were attributed to the 1 MW N54 machine, says Hans Fechner of parent company BDAG Balcke-Dürr. Order books are full this year and about 200, 1.3 MW N60 units are to go up in Germany. Elsewhere, the company has set its sights on markets in China, Egypt, Spain and France. Nordex has a joint venture with Chinese Xian Aero Engine and it is considering either a co-operation with a Spanish company or setting up its own production facilities in Spain, Fechner says. Spain is expected to put even Germany's high growth rates in the shade, says Volker König of marketing company Nordex Planung und Vertrieb. Within two to three years, Nordex aims to move up the global pecking order of wind turbine manufacturers from fifth or sixth and 20-30% of the market share to within the top three, Fechner says
