A planning permit for Kenetech's 80 turbine, $30 million project in Washington state was unanimously approved in July. The firm expects to start construction soon, but the local Columbia Gorge Audubon Society, which is concerned about the impact on birds, is appealing Kenetech's "conditional use permit." with Klickitat County commissioners and in court.
