Naturstrom works toward certification

Independent green power trader Naturstrom (Windpower Monthly, February 1999) now has a supervisory body to ensure that sufficient renewables generated power is fed into utilities' grids to match the amount contracted by Naturstrom customers, reports chairman Hermann Scheer, who is also president of European solar group, Eurosolar. Board member Ralf Bischof adds that in the early days of the eco power market, the success of a green power trader depends on its credibility. "Transparency is one way to win the confidence of our customers," he says. Naturstrom will "do all it can" to be granted a German eco-power label as soon as requirements have been defined by German environmental associations, including Eurosolar and Naturschutzbund, a nature protection association, he says.
