Gearbox company undergoes fourth name change to become Moventas

A long time supplier of drive trains to the wind industry has just gone through its fourth name change to become Moventas following the sale in March of Metso Drives by its owner, Metso Corporation of Finland, to Scandinavian equity investment group CapMan. "Moventas is now an independent gearbox company with one customer, Metso," says company vice president Jukha Kekki. Before becoming Metso Drives, the company, owned by the Metso Corporation, was known as Valmet Power Transmission until a merger with gearbox company Santasalo Oy in 1999 to become Santasalo Gears Oy (Windpower Monthly, February 2000). Metso Corporation later adopted the name Metso drive trains for its subsidiary. Valmet drive trains have been supplied to the wind industry since the 1980s, particularly to Vestas.
