Spain's Acciona Windpower is to supply up to 782.5 MW of turbines to Energías de Portugal (EDP), starting with 382.5 MW to 2011. The Portuguese utility's renewables arm, EDP Renováveis, has the option to buy another 400 MW during 2009-2011. The deal is for Acciona's 1.5 MW unit capacity, but EDP may upgrade to the AW 3 MW model, both for the optional extension and the later stages of the initial deal. Acciona expects most of the turbines to go to projects in Europe and the US, where EDP Renováveis is most active and where Acciona Windpower operates three of its four turbine factories, two in Spain and one in Iowa. The fourth is in China.
