The economically depressed town of Nakskov, former home to a once thriving shipyard, has been chosen by Vestas for a new blade manufacturing facility. It is to build a 20,000 square metre factory for production of blades for megawatt scale turbines. "The harbour in Nakskov has the advantage of good shipping facilities for the large blades -- also in relation to offshore projects," says Johannes Poulsen of Vestas. Nakskov is on the island of Lolland in the far south of Denmark. The company anticipates the plant will employ more than 200. Production will start in autumn once the new building is ready.
