The utility supplying Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city, is planning to erect six, 600 kW Vestas wind turbines in time for the European Commission's bi-annual wind energy conference in Gothenburg in May. The turbines will be sited on rocky islands in Gothenburg's huge natural harbour by Göteborg Energi. The utility currently owns one 450 kW Bonus turbine on an island in the harbour and also installed three Vestas 225 kW turbines, though these have since been taken over by a local co-operative. If all goes according to plan, by late May Gothenburg will have almost 5 MW of wind power installed in the harbour, visible from many parts of the city and from the many ferries and ships going in and out of the country's largest port.
