American AES buys two more projects

Large US power company AES Corporation has signed two new agreements with Guohua Energy Investment Co Ltd, one of China's largest wind power developers. It is acquiring 49% of the 49.5 MW Guohua Hulunbeier wind farm, which began commercial operation in September 2007 in Inner Mongolia. It is AES's second wind project with Guohua, the other being phase one of Huanghua wind farm in Hebei Province, currently under construction and due on line late next year. The second agreement will see the two firms proceed with the 49.5 MW second phase of Huanghua to bring its cumulative capacity to 99 MW when complete in 2010. AES says the project has the potential to expand to up to 200 MW. The US firm has more than 1000 MW of wind power in operation globally, plus another 6000 MW in various stages of development, including projects in Bulgaria, Chile, France and Scotland.
