Ireland's largest wind farm has begun operating at Tursillagh in County Kerry. The 15 MW project comprises 23 Vestas wind turbines. It was developed by Saorgus Energy Ltd of Tralee and PowerGen Renewables of the UK. The wind farm -- which has been seven years in planning and development -- began operating in December. It has a 15 year power purchase agreement through the Alternative Energy Requirement, Ireland's renewable energy support system. At full output, the project can supply half of Kerry's electricity needs.
