Eviva, the electricity production subsidiary of Portuguese energy and construction firm Martifer SGPS, has been renamed Martifer Renewables. The rebranding is part of a strategy to strengthen the renewable energy industry synergies within the group. Since 2006 Eviva has amassed a large portfolio of projects, including operational wind plant in Germany and projects under development elsewhere, most notably 400 MW in Portugal which, as part of the Ventiveste consortium, Martifer won in a government tender, 1000 MW in Central Europe (Poland and Romania) and 800 MW in Texas (Windpower Monthly, February 2008). Recently, Martifer kicked off construction of a new wind turbine assembly plant at Oliveira de Frades, Portugal, which will produce 130 Repower turbines a year. Martifer is a co-owner of Repower. The EUR 7.6 million facility should be complete by the end of July. In addition, it has also invested EUR 13 million to expand its existing wind turbine tower factory at the same location.
