World Wildlife Fund ranks FPL best in US on two key environmental issues

The World Wildlife Fund ranked FPL Group of Florida best in the United States and second best worldwide on two key environmental criteria. It says wind power was a major factor in FPL earning the high ratings for its use of currently available technologies to reduce CO2 emissions and its commitment to future improvements. FPL Group is the parent company of FPL Energy, the nation's largest wind power developer. The ranking came in a report generally critical of large power companies for failing to make use of available technologies to address the threat climate change poses to the environment. Almost two-thirds of the 72 companies ranked scored less than one out of a possible ten for their response to global warming. FPL ranked 4.3, primarily for its leadership in developing wind energy and its commitment to improving efficiency.
