No environmental damage from planned offshore plant in Finland, says study

The proposed construction of Finland's largest offshore wind farm -- 69, 3 MW wind turbines at Kokkola -- will not cause environmental problems, according to the final Environmental Impact Study by developer PVO Innopower Oy. PVO, the energy development subsidiary of Finnish power company Pohjolan Voima Oy, also says the EUR 300-500 million project is unlikely to meet serious local objections, even if it was extended to 100 turbines. A plant on this scale would produce a five-fold increase in the country's existing wind generation, which was 41 MW in 2002.
