In the first half of this year, German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon will have installed 44 of its 500 kW E40 machines in Portugal, amounting to 22 MW of total generating capacity. Last month a 10 MW wind station was brought on-line at Pena Suar by Enernova, the subsidiary of the national utility Electricidade de Portugal, Enercon reports. Another 10 MW project, the country's first private wind farm, was also going up last month at Lamego, near Vila Lobos (Windpower Monthly, September 1997). The third project is the Vila do Bispo I wind station, which will consist of four E40 units (Windpower Monthly, February 1998). Installation was slated for this month. Power from all three projects will be sold to Electricidade de Portugal.
