A renewable energy course of study and scholarships has been introduced by the Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Sources to attract professionals to the field. The scheme is viewed as a long term investment, since manpower for renewables is lacking in India. The pilot phase covers a master's and a PhD program. In 2002, the program will be expanded, including bachelor's degrees. The selection of candidates will be co-ordinated by the Centre for Energy Studies at the Delhi Institute for Technology.
