Going up in Wales

A single wind turbine has just been built in North Wales by one of the UK's few independent developers. Huw Smallwood has installed a 600 kW Vestas turbine on his family's sheep farm near Bala. He secured a NFFO-3 power purchase contract and developed and financed the project himself. "I have taken great personal risks to put my chequebook where my mouth is," he comments. Now, bitten by the wind bug, Smallwood has successfully bid for a NFFO-4 contract for two more wind turbines that will be sited next to the existing one.
