Funding to develop the first wind farms in the Finnish municipalities of Luoto and Naerpioe is expected in 2006/2007, indicates a report issued by the Luoto district council. The two areas emerged as the most suitable for wind development in a survey of potential sites along the Ostrobothnia coast. In April, the Luoto council initiated plans to raise EUR 17.5 million for a 16 MW wind plant of eight 2 MW turbines for eastern Luoto. The money is expected to come from both private investors and the municipal authority, which hopes to begin talks with potential turbine suppliers before the end of the year. Ostrobothnia's regional council needs to approve the plan before it can proceed.
