New safety rules for working on wind turbines

New safety rules for working on wind turbines have been developed by owners and manufacturers operating in the UK. The Wind Turbine Safety Rules have been trialled and are endorsed by the British Wind Energy Association and the government's Health and Safety Executive, which prefers industry to be self-regulating. Development of the rules was driven by wind project developers E.ON UK, npower, ScottishPower and Renewable Energy Systems, together with turbine manufacturers Vestas and Siemens. The companies wanted a single auditable standard across the UK.
